Thea Jane
Brown
May 24, 1939 — Oct 13, 2018
Thea Jane Brown, nee Fike, passed peacefully at the Lutheran Senior Life Center in Zelienople on Saturday, October 13, 2018. Born May 24, 1939 in Confluence, Thea is survived by her husband of 61 years, Richard Groff Brown, Zelienople, son, Jeffrey Brown and wife, Rebecca (Kubic), Mars, daughter, Jennifer (Brown) Mittereder and husband, David, Buck Hill Falls, and grandchildren, Zachary, Alyssa and Jacob Brown. She is also survived by her sister, Barbara (Fike) Nolf and husband, Dale, Listonburg, sister-in-law, Janice (Brown) Fike, Confluence and various nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Glenn Fike and Emily (Rodahaver) Fike Boyd. Thea was married in June 1956, the week after she graduated from Turkeyfoot Valley Area High School in Confluence. Dick and Thea grew up together, raising two children, buying and running a 24-hour restaurant, Lone Star, on Route 40 in Markleysburg and then moving to Smethport, where Dick became President and CEO of the local bank and Thea took care of home and family, taught pre-school, refinished furniture, sewed, opened an antiques store and had a thriving business running estate sales with a partner. She traveled, skied, gardened, camped, antiqued, threw great dinner parties and raucous holiday gatherings, and lived life with great gusto. For most of her life, Thea had a dog or cat, or both, or more than one of each and she loved them dearly. She was forever rescuing animals and passed that on to her kids, who knew that any stray animal they found would be taken in. Collies, poodles, Siamese cats, Heinz 57s – all found a loving home. From the late 1970s on, Thea spent her summers in Chautauqua, NY. Upon Dick's retirement, they moved to Chautauqua full time and Thea spent many happy decades chasing down balls on the tennis courts, boating on the lake and enjoying activities with her great group of friends. She was a loving and kind wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and aunt. She was vivacious, with a sharp sense of humor and great style and loved a good party. She will be missed. Friends will be received from 6 – 8 PM Tuesday and from 10 – 11 AM Wednesday at the Humbert Funeral Home in Confluence. A funeral service will follow Wednesday's visitation at 11 AM with Rev. Glenn P. Foster officiating. Interment in Addison Cemetery.
