Robert Eugene Bender, 90, of Hookstown, formerly of Confluence, passed Friday morning September 18, 2026 in the comfort of his home with family at his side. Born August 4, 1936 in Listonburg, he was the last surviving son of the late Carl & Ruth (Foy) Bender. Robert was a veteran of the US Army and had worked as a truck driver for the Keystone Lime and Stone Co. for over 42 years. He also assisted with funerals at the Humbert Funeral Home in Confluence. While living in Hookstown, he attended the Millcreek EPC of Hookstown. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Myrna J. (Burnworth) Bender, daughters Susan (Barry) Sullenberger and Sandra (Ernest) Fritz, grandchildren Tessa & Arin Fritz, nephews Jerry (Chris) Bender and Terry (Cathy) Bender and a dear friend Josiah Swayngim. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Carl Jr. and wife, Phyllis Bender, sister-in-law Dorothy Harter, and nephew Michael Harter. Family and friends will be received at the McConnell Funeral Home, Hookstown on Sunday, September 20th from 1 PM until the time of service at 3 PM with Rev. Abby Opal officiating. Additional visitation will be held Monday, September 21st, at Humbert Funeral Home in Confluence from 3 PM until the time of service at 6 PM with Pastor Valerie Stark officiating.
