Paul Eugene
Tobias
Nov 27, 1936 — Sep 22, 2019
In Sure and Certain Hope of the Resurrection (Titus 1:2a)
Pastor Paul Eugene Tobias passed away Sunday, September 22, 2019, at his home in Kingwood, PA. During his years as a pastor, he frequently napped on Sunday afternoons between services. This Sunday he awoke from his nap in the presence of his Savior. He was born November 27, 1936, to Edward and Lucy Merle Tobias, in Denver, Colorado. His mother having passed away when he was an infant, he was cared for by his Aunt Margaret and Uncle Frank Earl in northeastern Indiana, where he spent his youth. Paul is the beloved husband of Rosanna. He is the dear father of Ned Jonathan (Marsha), Edenton, NC; Jaynn Tobias-Johnson, Elgin, IL; Jill (Jeffrey) Romesberg, Rockwood, PA; and Paul Benjamin (Sherri), Findlay, OH. He is the cherished papa of Marisa (Zachary) Vaskalis, Fuquay-Varina, NC; Alexis (Jared) Tobias Jacavone, Edenton, NC; Karl (Wren) Wingblade, Golden Valley, MN; Cameron Johnson, Naperville, IL; Janée (Ben) Romesberg, Seattle, WA; Joel (Angela) Romesberg, Rockwood, PA: Jeylan (Joshua) Romesberg Judy, Point Marion, PA; Julia (Avery) Deskevich, Rockwood, PA; Charis Tobias, Seattle, WA; and Jonathan Tobias, East Troy, WI. He is the precious great-grandfather of Evelina Vaskalis, Jaxon Romesberg, and Theo and Ewan Judy. He was preceded in death by daughter Kay, son-in-law Bruce, sister Johanna Webster, brothers James and Stanley, aunt Margaret Earl, parents Edward and Lucy Merle, and parents-in-law Carl and Lena Norr. Dad loved the Lord, and Dad loved people. His greatest passion in life was to share the good news of Christ's love and salvation to all. Ordained as a pastor in the Churches of God General Conference in 1959, he ministered to nine congregations in Indiana, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, and Maryland. After semi-retiring in 2001, he continued to serve as an interim pastor for several more congregations before taking on the role of visitation pastor at Kingwood Church, where he finally retired fully in 2016, as pastor emeritus. Dad loved music. From Bill and Gloria Gaither to the Sons of the Pioneers to Handel, he raised his children to sing and to play the piano (albeit reluctantly for a few of us). His and Mom's passion for travel and for history meant spending our vacations traveling (and, for a few of us, reluctantly tenting) across the US. He made us laugh, he taught us the joy of cherry pie and ice cream, and because his own Christmases growing up were so lean, he made sure we each received at least one gift that we really, really wanted. Dad has been our model for the ideal pastor, the ideal husband, the ideal father. And he has been our model of deep, true, and absolute commitment to Christ. Every evening for the past 60 years, Dad and Mom have prayed for each of their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren by name. As in-laws joined the family, their prayer list of loved children grew. And their prayer has always been the same: that each of us grow in the love and knowledge of Jesus Christ. Dad, lettuce cabbage go. We'll see you in Heaven where we know you are singing. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 PM Thursday in the Kingwood Church of God, where a funeral service will be held at 1 PM Friday with Rev. Paul Benjamin Tobias, Fr. Ned Jonathan Tobias and Rev. James Monticue officiating. Interment in Mount Union Cemetery. Viewing one hour prior to the service on Friday. Memorial contributions can be given on behalf of Churches of God missions: Global Reach, PO Box 926, Findlay, OH 45839. Or online at https://secure.cggc.org/cross-cultural-ministries .
