Obituary

Mark Anthony Giejda, 58, Farmingdale, NJ and Markleton, passed away Thursday, September 27, 2018 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh after a sudden onset and brief illness. Born December 17, 1959 in Plainfield, NJ, he graduated from North Plainfield High School. He moved to Farmingdale, where he started the landscaping company, Giejda Designs. He met his wife Cindy (Sotak) Giejda, a McKeesport native in 1992 while she was living in New Jersey and they married in 1996. Cindy became involved in the landscaping company and together they became co-owners of Giejda Landscape Contractors, Inc. and grew the company to cover not only landscape maintenance and design/installation, but snow removal, excavating and site work, Christmas light installations and also started Deer Haven Nursery perennial farm, all in Farmingdale. Mark was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing and quailing – most especially with his 13 year old son, Michael. He loved NASCAR racing, college football, old "muscle cars" and just being with his family and pets. He was the driving force behind Cindy's bluegrass career with his faith in her songwriting and music. Her new album "Moonshiner's Daughter" (Cindy G) was released internationally on September 21, 2018 to rave reviews across the globe. Cindy attributes her success directly to her husband's encouragement and belief in her craft. Mark, Cindy and their son purchased a farm property in Markleton in 2007 and enjoyed its quiet solitude and beauty as often as they could, calling it a second home. Mark loved the Pennsylvania mountains and the many friends and acquaintances they made in their 11 years of being there. Mark was also a retired chef – learning to cook at a young age from his Italian born brother-in-law, Lou Terraglia, who owns Luna Rossa Restaurant in Pluckemin, NJ. Mark was well known for his excellent culinary skills and he loved cooking and hosting big parties for family and friends. He was an outgoing, gregarious soul who will be sorely missed. Predeceased by his parents "Big" Frank and Harriet (Tietz) Giejda, he is survived by his wife, Cindy, son, Michael, sister and brother-in-law, Charlene and Lou Terraglia, Bedminster, NJ, brothers, Frank Giejda, Jr., Point Pleasant, NJ and James Giejda and wife, Sandra, Crystal Lake, IL; also sister-in-law, Maryann Giejda, Point Pleasant, mother-in-law, Dorothy Sotak, McKeesport, brothers-in-law, Tim Sotak and wife, Barbara, Clarksville, Dan Sotak and wife, Linda, Belle Vernon and numerous nieces and nephews. Mark wanted his final resting place to be in the beautiful, serene, Pennsylvania mountains with a New Jersey memorial service to follow. Relatives and friends may attend the burial Saturday, October 6, 2018 at Mt. Union Church and Cemetery, 1988 Turkeyfoot Trail Rd., Rockwood, PA. There will be a viewing from 1-4 PM followed by a 4 PM service and interment.
