Leonard B. Compton, 95, formerly of Markleton, passed away Sunday, October 17, 2021 at Rest Assured Living Center, Meyersdale. He was born January 30, 1926 in Sand Patch, a son of R. Stanley and Erma (Tressler) Compton. His parents, wife, Viola Faye (Sanner) and a sister, Idella Kennel preceded him in death. He is survived by a son, Dr. Gary Compton and wife, Brenda, Addison and a daughter, Glenda Johnson and husband, Steve, Markleton;    grandchildren, Amy Wilt, Scott Compton and fiancé, Elisha Fazenbaker, Jason Johnson and wife, Nicole and Chad Johnson and wife, Beth; great grandchildren, Brianna and Paige Wilt and Macy Johnson; step great grandchildren, Makaylah, David, and Riley Fazenbaker and a sister, Joyce Storer and husband, Robert, Hagerstown, MD. Leonard was a graduate of Rockwood High School, a WW II veteran of the US Navy, a member of Ursina American Legion Post 946, Lodge #358 F. & A.M. Somerset and the Kingwood Church of God. He was a former member of the Mountaineers and the Wheelers and Dealers Square Dancers. He was also an avid hunter and a volunteer at the New Centerville Farmers and Threshermens Jubilee for 23 years. He was retired from the Western Maryland Railroad and Westvaco. The family would like to thank the staff at Rest Assured Living Center for the care afforded both Leonard and his wife for the years that they lived there and also to Three Rivers Hospice. There will be a private visitation and funeral service on Wednesday at the Humbert Funeral Home in Confluence with Rev. James Monticue officiating. Interment will follow in Kingwood I.O.O.F. Cemetery with military honors performed by the Somerset County Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Kingwood Church of God, 119 Humbert Rd., Markleton, PA 15551.
