Obituary

Jay Russell Sechler, 81, Confluence, went to be with the Lord on December 17, 2017. He passed away at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh surrounded by his family. He was born November 2, 1936 in Confluence, a son of James Russell and Ruth E. (Turney) Sechler. His parents and brother-in-law, Ed Leonard preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, the former Alberta Humbertson, to whom he was married 61 years. Also survived by his son, Michael Jay Sechler, married to the former Regina Ellen Dickey and grandson, Michael Jordan Sechler; sister, Marjorie Leonard; brother, Ted Ray Sechler and wife Janice; brothers-in-law, John Humbertson and wife, Shirley; Larry Humbertson and wife, Dolores; sisters-in-law, Linda Glisan and husband, James, and Sandra Guard; also numerous nieces and nephews. Jay was a lifelong farmer who loved driving machinery and working the land. He was very innovative and not afraid to try something new. He was one of the first farmers in Somerset County to use the No-Till farming method. He also loved spending time in his wood shop, where he hand crafted many pieces of beautiful furniture. Though a quiet man of few words, Jay made sure he passed along his farming and wood working knowledge to his son and grandson, of whom he was very proud. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, riding his Gator and cutting wood. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 PM Wednesday at the Humbert Funeral Home in Confluence. Private interment in Mt. Zion Cemetery.
