She enjoyed historical novels, westerns by Zane Grey and especially poetry. She could recite many poems she learned in school. Ida grew up in Listonburg and loved exploring the town and surrounding hills. She killed her first buck while hunting with her father. She was a skilled seamstress and when her daughters were young she made much of their clothing. In later years, she created beautiful comforters, quilts, pillows, teddy bears, Raggity Ann and Andy dolls and doll clothes. She was a gifted crafts person and made lovely pine cone wreaths and candle holders. Ida loved nature and the outdoors and enjoyed collecting rocks, leaves, and flowers. She enjoyed walking with her family on the beaches of Presque Isle in Erie and in the Cleveland Metro Parks, especially the Chagrin Falls, Bedford, Solon and Garfield Hts. reservations. She also enjoyed travelling with her daughters, taking many trips to state parks in Ohio, West Virginia and Pennsylvania. Her favorite was Babcock State Park in Rainelle, WV. She always looked forward to a trip to Lutherville, MD to visit her dear childhood friend June Burow Hawkins and June's daughter, Ann Tracey and also to Fairmont to visit her beloved sister, Millie and her daughters Linda and Patty and their families. After her children were all in school, Ida worked at Faymore Manufacturing in Confluence. In 1979 she moved to Chagrin Falls, Ohio where she worked as a resident housekeeper for some of the staff at Windsor Hospital. After her retirement, she lived with her daughter, Cheryl in Garfield Hts. In 2011 she returned home to Listonburg and lived with her daughter, Melanie and is now with loved ones in the Promised Land. Ida was devoted to her family and their cats and dogs. Her very favorite pastime was spending time with all of them. A celebration of her life will be held in the fall.
